Burn Bowls began with a spark—both literal and symbolic.
On a remote private island off of Nantucket, Burn Bowls founder and owner, Brendan Talty happened upon a rusted old relic: a 19th-century whaling try pot used to render blubber into oil.
Inspired by its form and the feeling of stepping back in time, Brendan imagined how something so rugged and iconic could be reimagined as a fire pit that connects people today.
By 2022, the Burn Bowls vision became reality. Back in Brendan’s coastal hometown of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts—once the hub of whaling shipbuilding—
—Brendan spotted a 1000-gallon propane tank and immediately thought to transform it into the likeness of the whaling try-pot that he had seen years earlier on Tuckernuck Island.
He got to work, and with the help of a few maritime industry steelworker friends, they handcrafted the first Burn Bowl in his backyard studio barn.
What started out as a passion project literally quickly caught fire, and the first of the legendary Burn Bowls was forged.
Today, Burn Bowls handcrafts premium fire pits from recycled Corten steel and repurposed materials, merging New England heritage, modern function and the primal practice of people gathering around fire.
Larger, deeper, and more distinctive than most traditional fire pits, each burn bowl is designed to burn efficiently as it encourages connection, radiates warmth, and serve as a one-of-a-kind centerpiece for gathering, storytelling, and outdoor cooking.
